It's time to set Matilda aside for a bit. I can see what's wrong with it, but I'm too close to fix it. What happens is this: I can see the story, the action, the flow, and I write in a kind of shorthand. I did this a lot with Lewis Door. All those little bits of explanation were just belaboring the obvious. The problem I have with shorts is I wonder if they're worth the trouble of going back to fix. And this particular short - meh. I love the characters, but the idea is well worn. Well, maybe not the dog part. And I loved the last couple of lines.

And I'm wondering why the first female protagonist I've written in ages is a dog.

hah hah hah! that last bit was funny...but hm...it does make one think. I wonder why that is, that it's your first?

Not first ever, but it's been a long time, nothing since Tess, anyways. Perhaps it's because I've not had many female friends, and the ones I've had have always been a bit outside the mold.
