I have very few regrets in life. I have a lot of "I wonder what would have happened it I'd done this instead of that", but really, I'm pretty darn happy with how it all turned out.

But every time I walk by a poster or display about the Peace Corp, I hover.

So this time I picked up a brochure and I'm in the process of filling out the application. I don't know if I'll go, but I'll see if they'll accept me, and see where I am then (Aug 2010) and make my decision then. Though they don't accept children, there's nothing saying that Mike and Luke couldn't come along on their own dime. I dunno, still thinking about that one. August 1, 2010, the boys will be 25.4, 23.4, 23, 18.92, 17.87, and 9.65 years old, respectively.

The application is daunting.

My college apartment mate went to the peace corps after graduation and loved it. She also met her husband there.

Were you ever tempted to go?

Not at the time, but I was very driven to continue my education in grad school and start my career. I think now I might choose something different. Maybe a Buddhist retreat... before starting grad school.

I totally understand. There's been many a time that the husbie and I have talked about chucking it all--selling the house & cars, selling all the accumulated crap, etc.--and just taking off into the world. Apply! You never know how you might end up changing your life, whether or not you get in. Just applying might change things enough.

:)

There are some things that I feel driven to do, but I think that I want to do this for me, first. I'll have my BS, LPN and CAC by then, so I suppose they'd have some use for me. I want to get my PA or NP, but I'm not sure yet how that will fall together.

I feel like I have at least another good twenty years to make a good start at what I want to get done, maybe thirty before I get too frail to be much good (I'm pretty damn hardy, and I've got some decent genetics on my side.)

The only time I feel like I'm spinning my wheels is when I'm in school, and that's only sometimes. But, like you said, the freedom to shed my stuff! I've already decided to give the house to my sister. And then the rest to Vinnies or the dumpster. In my head, I've allowed myself a 4x4x4 space for things like mementos to store somewhere.

I've already decided that I'll go with a laptop, a camera, an emergency sat-phone (for the kids), a Kindle, and a couple changes of clothes.
