I spent a bit of time as a breakfast cook, and I love to do special breakfasts for my family. Tomorrow we'll have scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, and cranberry orange scones, for the eight in the household.

cranberry orange scones

2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour (spoon & leveled), plus more for hands and work surface
2 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
zest from 1 orange
1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, frozen
1/2 cup whole-fat milk plain yogurt 1/4 sour cream and 1/4 2% milk (the original recipe calls for heavy cream, but I don't have any, or any yogurt, it seems)
1 large egg
1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 heaping cup (125g) fresh cranberries

glaze: 1 cup (120g) confectioners’ sugar and 2–3 Tablespoons (30-45ml) fresh orange juice

Shorthand Directions: mix the dry ingredients, mix the wet ingredients in a separate bowl, cut the butter into the dry ingredients, drizzle the wet into the dry, mix lightly, form into a disk and cut into 8 wedges. Bake at 400 F for 22-25 min. Make the glaze while they cool, and then drizzle it on.
