from the nutrition paper I just handed in
Apr. 10th, 2007 08:29 pmPart of the "reflection" - the articles that I summarized were about obesity and bariatric surgery.
"I think that BMI is not a good indication of health. Health is about feeling good, loving life and living it to the fullest. A person with a BMI over 30 who is free of disease, who has healthy relationships and who loves her body and herself is not sick! I cheerfully wear the label “fat”, because, honey, I’ve got a round, curvaceous body that could comfortably survive a short-term famine.
Instead of focusing on why people are fat, perhaps we should focus on why people feel that they must be thin."
