proofs, podcasts and illustrations
Jul. 29th, 2007 05:14 pmI've got ten prints of Lewis Door, and I'm looking for proofers. Len's gonna take one with him on the boat, Ruby's gonna get one, I'm going to send one to
anansi133, and one will go to my illustrator, Audrey.
Ok, I've thought about this alot. I know that getting a work published is a validation of the worth of the work. No one takes freely offered work seriously.
So, well, fuck that.
Though I admit that it'd be more-than-cool to have a publisher take me seriously and lay down a chunk of change, to be in a position to say that I was "published" -- it's just not worth it. I'm too much in love with the idea of free access, of saying "Here yas go, universe. Have at!"
So.
First, the podcast. Heath Patrie is a very cool, very weird genius. Hopefully, we'll begin recording next week. I'm not sure where we'll offer the podcasts. There's podiobooks, and there was another one that Heath mentioned that I can't remember. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free.
And the illustrator! Audrey will be doing a wrap around cover and some dozen interior vignettes. She is wonderful, and you will love her illustrations.
Finally, there'll be published-on-demand actual books, if anyone wants to buy one. That's were the proofreading comes in. It'll cost $500 for the typesetting, and after that, $5/book -- minimum 100 books at a time. I figure I'll sell the books for around $10.
I'd made kinda-sorta plans to go see Heath last Thursday, but I wanted to be with Len, and Mike came home, too. Tonight Mike and Len and I are going to watch a movie or something. I'm hoping that I can catch up with Heath sometime tomorrow. There'll probably be some 20-odd recording sessions. I figure that the podcast will take 6-12 months to produce.
In the mean time, there's kids and school and work and I started on LD#2 today.
