Last Saturday, Luke and Aubrey (Fred's gf) and I went to pick wild apples. We didn't have a ladder to climb the trees, but that's what 6-yr olds are for. It was really wonderful; a lovely fall day, in the 60's with a clear blue sky. We got two brown grocery bags of apples - they look mostly like Mac's, from 3" to 5" in diameter.

Last night I made another apple pie. There is a taste to these apples that's hard to describe. They are more apple-y. Mmmmmm. And I made apple butter. [livejournal.com profile] anansi133, would you like some homemade apple butter? I have six pints.

A few weeks ago, I wrote in this essay:

"Eating over processed foods out of cans and plastic has separated us from the Earth. We have become like cut flowers in a vase, disconnected from the soil. The food we eat nourishes our souls, or it does not and our souls go hungry."

I'm thinking that this afternoon, after work, I'm going to go prepare my little garden bed for spring. I want to get some kind of tank that I can use to store water for irrigation -- I can lug water from the lake and dump it into the tank, instead of watering the garden from the house tap.

The boys ate the apple pie in one swoop. But I've got more apples.

You're testing, to see if I'm paying attention. I can tell!

Yes, I love apple butter!
