Seeing the Oracle
We came to see the oracle, we came
Across the ice bound sea, benumbed and froze
On Karafuto we drank tea and sang
With the Ainu, sweet tea and music flows.
Steppe horses flung their heads, wild wind blows,
Waylaid, swords gleam upon the Silk Road, screams
In the bright air, blood flows in thin red streams.
In the Temple of Ninhursag, sweet Ki,
We laid offerings of grain and money.
In the salon of Lady Pu-abi
We sipped the beer of Sumer, honey
Sweet, like the breasts of Lady Pu-abi,
Upon her couch, red lips pouted, fickle,
Exquisite hands point to the oracle.
Across the blue-green sea we came, in search
On the beach of Ajaccio we built
A bonfire, feasted on grilled sea perch,
Danced roaring under a sky of black silk.
We drank the words again, drank them like milk.
Our oiled bodies gleamed red in the fire light,
How we danced and feasted that silken night!
