The Building
Mar. 22nd, 2004 08:55 amI just got off the phone with the USDA office in Gladstone (everyone is in a staff meeting and they'll call me back) - trying to get information on a Rural Housing Development loan or grant. SAIL (Superior Alliance for Independent Living) is interested in the project. Catholic Social Services might be too, and if we include elderly as clients, then we'll have the Commission on Aging pulling for us.
I've also made an appointment with Rich Uren from Northern Design Works to look at the building, specifically where the foundation was shored up, and give an assessment of suitability. ($300, but he'll let us make payments)- Note to self: file for DBA this week and open account.
My ballpark cost estimate of the project is $350,000. $70/sq.ft. for six 500 sq ft apartments, plus $120,000 for the elevator. Half of the money will have to come from grants, and the rest in low-interest government loans.
I wrote to Dr. Russel-Parks and NMU, asking her if she knew anyone who might be interested in making a documentary of the project.
