Camping! (with links and footnotes)

Last night, after Carl closed down the shop, we all (Mike, Carl, Crytalynn, Luke and I) piled into the Festiva (squeak!) and drove out to the Greenwood Reservoir for a night out in the tents.

We toasted marshmallows and got to see some of the meteors. It was Lewis Door Night.

Mike and Carl had a good time; they are so good together. Mike said something like, "well, at least I didn't have *my* first kid 'till I was twenty-four."

Carl pushed a new marshmallow onto his stick, his grin shining in the campfire light, "Slacker!"

Mike got up with me this morning at oh-dark-thirty and drove me back so I could open the shop.(1) The sky was spectacular; crystal clear and the Milky Way blazing.

Mike is fishing with Luke -- something Luke's been looking forward to all summer. I wish I could be there, but I'm okay with this, too. Jake (2) is up from St.Paul for an orthodontist appointment, and we had coffee and a talk this morning. (he's doing very well)(3).


1) Mike is concerned that I'm so sleep deprived. I explained to him that it's much worse when he's home. When he's not home, I'm more often in bed by 9pm.

2) After Pete met Jake, he turned to me with a look, "Okay, where did you find him?" Jake is very city boy, metrosexual and charming.

3) Sometimes I'm amazed at how much more together my kids are than I was at that age. It's not so much that they are driven toward goals, but that they have a very keen sense of who they are.

Pssst! You know how I said I wasn't free mornings? Just kidding! We just found an affordable option for childcare so, I AM available weekday mornings if you are still looking for a part time morning person. :)

Well, damn, girl. I just hired one, but I need another, too. How many hours do you want? Is 15 worth your while?

And I'm not sure how things are gonna work out with Carl, after the baby comes. He might cut his hours back.

Sure. This is more of a "get out of the house" venture than a "money making" venture. Srsly. I need to get out more. lol Especially since we chose a furnace instead of college this year. :(
