Oct. 22nd, 2004 06:55 pmLast night we had a little party for Sam's birthday - we had angel-food cake with strawberries and whipped cream, and then we carved pumpkins. Lucas and Ruby came over, and Laura came over after work. Len sat home, because he'd had a temper tantrum* and had a headache.
God, I know that every parent goes through this, but I want time to slow down a bit, eh? Sam is funny and bright and is turning into a man before my eyes - well, not yet. He's still a boy; a boy at a great age - 12. Curious and confident and at peace with his world.
Sometimes I just sit and quietly watch the boys, watch their faces - the way they laugh, talk, trade insults - they are so beautiful. I want to press it all into my mind so that when they are men, I can close my eyes and see their boy-selves, just as I can close my eyes now, and feel the softness of their baby skin and the whisper of downy hair.
*The tantrum was about a screw up with his PayPal account - Len and Laura recently changed their checking account, and it looks like that PayPal still had the old information. So he threw a hissy fit, throwing his checkbook against the wall, and calling Laura at work and venting at her.
