NMU is well fed and happy. Classes start on Monday:

EN211 - Narrative and descriptive Writing: Reading and writing assignments investigating perception, the ordering of experiences and insights and methods of expression. This will be a 4-hour class every Friday. The class will take a nature hike and write in situ.

HN415 - Human Nutrition- Obesity and Weight Management: Study of current theories surrounding the causes of and control of obesity. Students will apply their understanding of the fundamentals of human nutrition and exercise to construct programs containing sound principles of weight management and total fitness.

HS256 - History- Approaching China: Historical introduction to the distinctive cultural integration of pre-revolutionary China, approached comparatively as an original style of thinking, feeling and organizing life.

PY436 Psychology- The Psychology of Organizational Behavior: A focus on empirically researched areas of organizational behavior, including performance management, leader behavior, organizational environments, feedback, etc., and on implementing programmatic changes through the use of researched psychological techniques(1). Field and laboratory investigations included when appropriate.

1- my italics, 'cause it occurred to me that they're gonna teach me how to play with people's heads. Hmm. All my other psych stuff has been "this is how we think it works, and why".

I got some bad news today and I'm not sure how to act about it -- Mike's partner Jerry has been diagnosed with colon cancer.

What the hell do you say to someone who's been diagnosed with cancer? Christ.

He is dear to me because he's dear to Mike, and he has always treated me very lovingly. I just have no clue what to do. Everything that I think of just sounds lame.

Jerry's partner Dawn is a nurse, and is also a cancer survivor. My gut instinct is to write something but I'm somewhat paralyzed by knowing that anything I say will be so totally inadequate. But I know that if it was me with cancer, I'd be happy to get simple words of encouragement, and I'm pretty sure that Jerry would be too.

Maybe I'm just too damn tired to think, right now.
