A couple of weeks ago, I was talking to my Prof that teaches the Substance Abuse course I'm taking, asking about what it took to get certification for substance abuse counseling. He perked up, and said that he was on the board of Great Lakes Recovery, and that he thought I'd be a nice addition to the staff.

If the Director thought so, and if they had need.

He did, and they do, and I have an interview next week. They're looking for someone to assist the on-staff nurse -- take medical histories, vitals, pass out band-aids and aspirin, that kind of thing. It's an entry level job, but it's in my field and something that I'd love. Woot!

And while I'm at it, here's where I'm at on the whole education thing:

I attended U of M back in the 80's, and of the 92 credits I finished there, 41 transferred to NMU. Of those transferred credits, 8 where applicable to my degree.

In other words, I started over. After this semester, I'll have completed 121 credits at NMU, giving me a total of 162 credits. I have 16 credits of classwork remaining on my BS in psych and about 24 credits of clinicals on my LPN. I will graduate in May of 2010 with about 203 credits, not counting the 50-odd college credits that are languishing at U of M. I think I have a quadruple major or something. I know a little bit about a whole bunch of stuff; call me Renaissance.

My current GPA is 3.12, which is about four-tenths of a point too low to make it into what I was aiming at, the BSN program. I'll probably look at a LPN to RN program when I graduate. I'm thinking about MSN with a possibility in nursing education, or maybe a PA and the whole Dr-Quinn-Medicine-Woman thing, as Mike calls it. I dunno yet, but I have a feeling that when the time comes to choose, the choice will be very clear.

That is awesome. And I think having a degree in Renaissance is marvelous.
