My birthday is Saturday, but I'll probably be working then so today is my Birthday Observed.
Things that are happening as I age: people used to say "where do you hide the years" - not so much anymore! My hair is maybe 1/4 gray, and the brown of it is much lighter than it was in my prime. My nasolabial folds are much deeper and my deepset eyes are even more so. My roundness is a little more wiggly. The aches that were bothersome now sometimes make me groan. My eyesight is getting a yellow shadow on it and I think I'm gonna need cataract surgery in a bit. I'm forgetting who I told what, but I remember that I told somebody something.
Every year, my judgement improves. I listen more. My health is amazingly good; the only medications I take is as needed for occasional migraines. My sons are good-hearted grown men and I know that they are captains of their respective ships. I am deeply loved and love in return. I can still bust it out in the kitchen. I have meaningful work that I'm good at. I have plans for my future. There is beauty all around me.
