Apr. 3rd, 2009 08:20 pmI feel rather directionless and of low energy today. I didn't have to work, and I should be doing some house cleaning, god knows this place needs it. In between getting Luke a haircut and grocery shopping and picking Sam up 'cause he missed the bus, my elderly cat died.
Now, I have to tell you, I never did like that cat. We got her from a dear friend who had to move into an apartment, and she was just not a very likable cat. I looked at her this morning, 17 years old, frail and just skin and bones and miserable and I decided that today would be the day. I've been thinking about it for six months, but I always stopped myself because I didn't like the cat, and it didn't feel right having her euthanized -- like a conflict of interest or something.
Now, don't get me wrong, I was never mean to her. I really *tried* to like her. We had her for ten years. The thing is, nobody in the house really liked her that much, and we're cat people. So I took her to the vet today and held her while they gave her the shots and in just two breaths she was gone. I surprised myself by crying. Then I brought her home and we buried her in the side yard, near the mint.
Her name was Princess, but we called her Calico Cat, or Cali. Rest in peace, old girl. I'll think of you when I harvest the mint.
