I am trying to figure out where I land in this. When I was in South Dakota, the whites thought I was Native and the Natives dismissed me as white. I think of myself as Native and white. The fiction I write comes from a Native perspective. But I feel like a poser when I go to POC events. Bleh.

I don't think I knew that you identified as Native as well as white.

Me too. I feel like a pretender no matter what identity I claim. My mom's white, but I'm not. My dad's Puerto Rican, but I'm not.

Not-this-and-not-that can be a useful perspective, though.
