My eleven year old son Luke spent the first part of last week over at his friend Aaron's house, and then went off camping with his friend Lucas. I'm having Luke withdrawals! Here's some cool things I'm going to show him when he gets home this evening:

Scientist Mohamed Babu from Mysore, India captured beautiful photos of these translucent ants eating a specially colored liquid sugar. Some of the ants would even move between the food resulting in new color combinations in their stomachs.

Seen on fb page I fucking love science, from this post on Colossal Art and Visual Ingenuity.
Luke loves ants.
He is not so much into the space program; he's more into castles and swords. But this is exceedingly cool. I may get one for myself.

Curiosity Hot Wheel
"The Hot Wheels Curiosity model doesn't include the MSL spacecraft's cruise stage, chute or sky crane rig, but does recreate NASA's $2.5 billion nuclear-powered six-wheeled rover as a $1.09 (average price) hand-pushed six-wheeled toy."
And from Lego:

A LEGO Digital Designer model (right-click "Save As") and step-by-step .pdf instructions of the Curiosity rover are now freely available to enthusiasts and educators who want to build a rover with their own pieces. All of this, along with more information about the pieces you'll need, including part numbers, can also be found on Rebrickable. I'd love to hear from anyone who builds or uses the model. Pictures would be awesome too!

And Rebrickable? Why did I not know about this site!
