Well, we had a bit of excitement last night.

Around 5:30 pm (Saturday), I was feeling really crappy. I'd been sick with the head cold from hell, and now I had a fever, and figured I was headed toward pneumonia. So I left Carl in charge and went off to the Bell walk-in clinic. When I checked in, it was crazy - a guy having heart problems, another guy with a broken ankle, two sick kids, a woman with something in her eye - and more. But I'm scheduled to work tomorrow, so I figured I might as well wait it out and get on some antibiotics. I called Carl around 7pm, to tell him that it was taking a long time, and made sure that everybody had something to eat.

Finally, around 7:30, I got into a room, and they ordered chest x-rays. While I'm in there waiting, I here the EMS radio come on:

...605 Prince Street, four year old child with head injury....

In my hospital gown, I ran out to the nurses' station - "That's my house! That's my kid!" The nurse told me to call home, so I did. Carl answered. Luke had been jumping on Carl's bed, and had fell backwards against the metal headboard and cut his head. There was a lot of blood, and Carl freaked and called 911.

When I called, a police officer was there. He said that the cut had stopped bleeding and that Luke was fine, but he didn't want to leave until an adult was around. And, the EMS guys were on the way. So I called my friend Lucas, and he went over.

Lucas said that when he got there, about a gazillion neighborhood kids were standing around the front yard, and the EMS guys were holding a cold pack on Luke's head. And Carl's friend Fred was sitting there on the couch playing PS2. I can just picture that.

The EMS guys knew that I was at Bell, and they came and found me, letting me know that Luke was just fine - he has a thin, shallow cut on his scalp that bled alot. I, btw, have pneumonia, but not too bad, and they gave me some antibiotics and robitussin with codeine.

This morning, Carl made me blueberry pancakes, and Luke is as happy and active as he always is. I work from 3p-11p, but I start on my part-time schedule next week - a relief. I'm feeling a lot better this morning, not so tired and out of breath. The antibiotics must be helping.
