When Mike and I moved in together, we got a cat. That was in 1991. He was a short-haired tabby named Bandit. In 1994, we got a long-haired black and white beauty named Boomer. Boomer was given to us by a girl who I was doing childcare for; her new fiance was allergic. A month or so later, Boomer had kittens. We kept one of the kittens, a beautiful long-haired tabby named Peanut. Bandit died in 1996, and I still miss him.

Around 1998, the minister of my church was retiring and moving, and was looking for a home for her cats. So we got two more, both about 7 years old at the time - one short haired grey tabby (Missy) and one short haired calico (Precious, but soon called Cal).

Last spring, Missy got lost. We had a couple Missy Sightings, but never found her. Last winter, my friend Geriann's cat had kittens, and I gave one to Len for Valentine's day. Lucas gave one of the littermates to his wife Ruby. We had the two kittens here for about eight weeks. God, it was fun! So, when Geriann's cat had kittens again this summer, I said that we'd take two. When we went to pick the kittens up, there was an extra one that someone had said they'd take, but decided not to - and it made me sad to leave her without her littermates, so, having no self discipline, I took her too.

The kittens are a long haired blue-grey male named Geo, a long haired black female named Shadowcat, and a medium-haired tabby female named Lulu.

Now, I have a big house - a really big house... Boomer mostly sleeps. Cal is ornery, so she keeps her distance. Peanut deigns to play with the kittens, which makes me laugh. I am swimming in cats! It is a self-indulgent richness, and I love it.
