My name is Lisa. I have lived in Michigan most of my life so I'm a solid Midwesterner. Well, a solid socialist-leaning, polyamorous, sciency-thinking, kinda too much of a White Knight for mine and anyone else's good, Midwesterner.
I've loved reading and writing things since I can remember. I'm fascinated by all aspects of communication. The natural world also brings me great joy and I feel serene when I am in the garden or collecting herbs and food in the woods. I think a lot about climate change and I'm working on a Plan.
I was eight years old on that summer night when we landed on the moon. And it was we; I was right there. I danced and I was surely dancing with those blurry white-suited figures. They balanced me on the toes of their big moon boots and we twirled.
I watched every episode of the original Star Trek and dreamt of people who were different but the same, and of star ships, wonder, horror and tribbles.
In middle school I discovered Ray Bradbury first. He stole my breath and gave it back. I was Tarzan and Michael Smith and Muad'Dib. I read every science fiction book on the shelves, and when I turned 16 my boyfriend gifted me with Watership Down and The Lord of the Rings. That was 1976.
When I came out to my parents as Poly, decades later, my dad blamed it on "those weird books you read." Perhaps he was right. These wonderful stories and thoughts and ideas of ways of being -- have absolutely shaped me.
I haven't written any fic in a while, but mostly I write Doctor Who (goes to Teaspoon). I've done a bit of Star Trek, my first love, and Vorkosigan. I write original fiction and I've had a few of my short stories published. This last year has been slow going for all writing because of work stuff.
Finally, some demographics: I work as a nurse, I have a very large, boisterous family (six of my sixteen grandchildren had a sleepover last night and are downstairs right at this very moment being quite boisterous; we are going to a children's museum today!), my heart is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan though I'm living in Lansing, I am in a polyamorous relationship that is quietly segueing into friendship with Mike, whom I've been with for over thirty years. We are raising two of our grandchildren, and also in the house (currently, ha!) is my sister Denise, and my friends and somewhat-wards, Tone and Wolf.
(That could be a weekly comic. Tone and Wolf. Hmm.)
I feel for things passionately, I don't give up easily, I'm difficult to redirect, and am willful. I usually find a way to get where I want to be; it's usually not the easy path. But it's fun, if you enjoy fun of the hair-raising kind.

Date: 2020-01-05 04:16 am (UTC)Lansing...is less charming, and not just because of who's sitting in the governor's mansion. Although if it still has the Impression 5 there, it's not all bad.
Which is to say, hi from someone who doesn't live there now, because student loans still have to be paid back.

Date: 2020-01-18 10:22 pm (UTC)My god, you're a beautiful writer. I felt this, and it brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for writing it.
I think half the fun of fandom is finding people like you, and sharing times like that.
