reining in the clutter

Ye gods. It's getting better but it's still horrible. Questions plague me, like: do I put the fire escape ladder in the boys' closet so that if there're trapped by a fire they can escape? or will the imp-demons play with it and break their bodies into pieces? And where the hell do I store the roughly 200 VHS tapes that Mike won't let go? the attic gets too hot and the basement gets too damp.
And! I still have roughly 25' of walls left to paint in the dining room and play room. Since the walls need to be washed first and then taped, this might take me some two hours.
I've got to run to the hardware store for the shelving brackets I'm putting up in the playroom for the board games.
I like the idea of using the space under the stairs more efficiently. We already have a coat closet under the stair, so what I'm thinking of is a kind of reach-in or drawers for the small space at the bottom of the stair.
I've made a deal with Mike that I won't start on the Move The Basement Door and Steps project until I'm done with the Organize the Clutter project and have my upstairs office set up. Bleh.
Edit: I got about 8' of wall painted (the playroom is *done*), shelves put up for the board games, and Luke's fafsa finally done (just 3 mos late!).
I have 3 baskets of laundry that is folded but needs to be put away -- Mike will help, at least. And I have to pack for Frankenmuth.
