Okay, starting on nuts and bolts planning of the kitchen remodel. This is going to be a real diy project. I'm going to make my own cabinets and concrete counter tops. I'm going to budget out of my time 4 hours a week to work on the cabinets and counter tops, building and storing them down in the basement, and when I've got it all done, I'm going to take a week off nursing to tear the old kitchen out and put the new stuff in.
I'm going to buy this online class for the concrete counter tops/.
I'm using this plan for the cabinets.
I'll need two pieces of counter top -- both straight, one 5' long and one 8' long. No fancy angles or turns because it's a standard galley kitchen layout.
I'll need the 36" sink base and eight feet of upper and lower cabinets. The upper cabinets will go to the ceiling, and I was thinking of doing some kind of library ladder? Or a chair-ladder? I dunno. So nine cabinets total. I haven't decided how many drawers I want in the base cabinets. There'll also be a pantry that's about three and a half feet wide by about four feet deep, and that'll go to the ceiling too, so maybe the ladder chair is a better idea.
