May. 15th, 2006 07:18 pmI don't think that I've posted much on this: Mike is going to school down in Lansing this fall to get his commercial pilot's license. (Lansing Community College) I am going to attend NMU, and get my BSN. (nursing)
Mike's program will take two years, and he'll graduate with a BA in aviation (he'll be transferring credits from NMU). He'll have about 250-300 flight hours when he graduates, which isn't very much. He'll have to work as an instructor for about a year, probably at the school he's graduating from, or from some similar school.
I've got my classes picked out: Chemistry, Anatomy, Physiological Psychology and a class in weight training. Since I slept through my freshman year of chemistry at UofM back in 1980, and don't have a very sincere interest in chemistry, that's the class I'm most trepidatious about. The physiological psychology will be the most fun. I've got to hold a 3.0 for both the fall and winter semesters to be entered into the BSN fast track program.
Logistically,
Mike will move down to Lansing this fall. We have an RV, and he might go to a trailer park and live in that, or he might live with Joyce, whom he knows from the Guard's unit. We were supposed to meet up with Joyce while we were down there (on our trip, two weeks ago), but she blew us off. So I'm not too sure that living with her, even if she's ok with the idea, would be a good thing.
He'll be down there for two years, more or less. The program is self-paced. After he gets his degree and license, he will most probably teach at some other small college for a year or so. There's a private pilot's school up here at the Marquette County airport, but I don't know how often they hire instructors.
There is a Pan-Am pilot's school near Beijing that we're looking at. Mike'd need 100 flight instructor hours under his belt to be considered. There are also First Officer positions in India, Africa, Korea and Viet Nam that he'd be qualified to apply for.
I would very much like to see some of the world. I am less certain about the desire for the world to see me.
