Wowch, that's expensive. O_O Sometimes you can find good heavy-duty kitchen tools secondhand. Our Kitchenaid mixer, which has various attachments, was a refurbished model that we got for less than half the original price.

Many things designed for off-grid use are sturdier and more repairable than the commercial disposable products that are the norm nowadays. You may be able to find reviews or other user feedback that would give an idea of its working lifespan. Also, it's pretty common for people to buy things and then realize they're not going to stick with it, so they'll try to sell off barely-used equipment.

Go you! That's a great goal. That far north will be hard ... oh wait, the only static limitation is the day-night cycle, because the climate is warming. You're actually in a great place.

Have you got a machinist with welding and tooling skills? If not, see if anyone in your group would be interested in learning those, because they let you make and repair things. Current issue of Self-Reliance has instructions for making two different farm tools to make and maintain paths or other flat areas, which can be dragged behind a tractor or ATV. A lower-tech approach is blacksmithing, and we sometimes see that at street fairs around here.
