Jul. 24th, 2006 10:27 amWe had a lovely rain last night. Unfortunately, I think that it may have been too late for the berries. I keep forgetting that the berries ripen about 2 weeks earlier than they did when I was a teenager, and I keep missing them. Blackberries and blueberries are out now, but the raspberries are about done. I have today and tomorrow off and I'm thinking of looking for berries and sugarplums (what most folks call saskatoons or sarvice berries.) I was looking at some choke cherries and wild grapes, and the bunches looked a little sparse, too. Last year I made the most excellent chokecherry syrup. I haven't made wild grape jam for years, and I'd like to do that this year.
I took all (well, most) of the stuff that was drowning my dining room table and piled it in the middle of the floor of the library. I've sorted through about half of that, throwing out the junk mail and putting things in little piles. My problem is that I don't have a place for the little piles. I need to buy a couple of those see-through plastic drawer units. I really like them, but they always end up getting broken. Hmm...
Len's dad and mom came to Ishpeming last night and dropped off a bunch of Len's and Ruby's stuff. His dad is just a wonderful guy. We talked gardening for about 1/2 an hour, and he said he'd give me some of his ever-bearing strawberry stringers.
