Just last night: 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus by Charles C. Mann. It also gave me nightmares.

Oh, too many. I'm horribly envious of writers. If I had to pick one, I guess it'd be George R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones

I really can't think of anything that I wish had never been written.
