Dear Literary Agent,

Everything changes for astrophysicist Lewis Gedye when he falls into Lake Superior’s icy depths. Myth and magic seep into his life and he can no longer believe in what he can see and touch. Lewis Door is a stand-alone novel of approximately 70k words that explores themes of gods and myths, multidimensional space, and polyamorous relationships.

Dr. Lewis Gedye is on the verge of a breakthrough: the development of a device that can peer at the shape of multidimensional space. But he has opened a Door into lands of myth and legend, gods and monsters, and he must close it before he and his family are destroyed. Nanaboozhoo, the Ojibwe trickster, Tapio and Mielikki, gods of Finland’s forests, and Gwynn ap Nudd, Welsh god of the Wild Hunt lead and deceive Lewis as he and his partners, Tess and Ben, race to rescue their children and close the Door. Lewis, Tess and Ben’s relationship is tested to the limits when they find that closing the Door is just the beginning. In the end, Lewis must come to terms with his own power and the vast spirit of The Lady, the beautiful and deadly Lake Superior. His life will never be the same.

(Insert a few sentences exactly why I'm approaching Ms. Agent.)

Like the characters in Lewis Door, I reside on the southern shore of Lake Superior. My publishing credits include poetry in Astropoetica and feature length articles in the magazine Sirr and The Northwind.

Thank you for your time and consideration. The full manuscript of Lewis Door is available upon request.

I'm really bad at queries...the few times I've tried them have all ended in the literary equivalent of the crash and burn, though I think my most recent attempts have gotten a little better.

I remember this vaguely from the old BWG.

I can't think of anything that glares out as being "bad." You've really captured the essence of what your story is about. I like the juxposition of ideas: mythology, astrophysicism and polyamorism that you present. I just wonder if an editor is going to "get it." But "urban" fantasy is hot right now so this might be a completely different but the same (does that make sense?) and might be appealing.

Technically I can't think of anything wrong with your query. I'd give it a spin and keep us all posted.

I hope this helped, like I said queries aren't my strength.

This is what I was most concerned about, so your critiqe was very reassuring. Thanks!
