the story of my life
Apr. 21st, 2008 12:16 pmI finished my blacksmithing project and wasn't too satisfied with the finished project. It just didn't look like what I'd visualized. I thought, my vision has exceeded my skill set.
This thought reverberated throughout my whole friggin' psyche. Oh. My. God. I just sat there, stunned. Gods, the things I could have side-stepped.
Then I called Mike and explained my epiphany. He laughed so long that I started to get miffed. When he had calmed down to snuffles, I said (rather crossly), "You could have told me!" Which just got him laughing again...

Date: 2008-04-21 08:21 pm (UTC)There does seem to be a set of skills that can be genaralized across any number of disciplines. They have to do with recognizing the kind of limits that are being hit, and scaling down the ambition. The sooner this can happen, the better morale can remain.
(I'm feeling a little smug about this particular point, because I just halted a project I was doing, and cut the scale in half: before I had started assembling anything.)

Wonders: How would it feel if "my skill set exceeded my vision"?
