in the vernacular
Jul. 20th, 2008 05:52 pmI was doing some writing today and noticed that my character said yer for you're and your, but sometimes she says yas for your.
I say yas/yoos sometimes when I'm using the plural you like, Where are yas going? which actually sounds like where're'yas goin'?, or Do yas want a sandwich? which sounds like D'yas wanna sam'ich? I'll say yoos if I'm emphasizing the word -- And what are yoos up to?
I got a crit once, for Lewis Door that said something like you have a lot of characters and they each have their own voice. I thought this was an odd crit, because of course they have their own voice; I try to write it just like I'm hearing it.
