Nov. 16th, 2004 10:51 amSunday was my last day at the restaurant. I shall miss it a bit, but not too much. It was actually painful to watch the neo-managers screw up that badly. They will learn, but on the owners' dime. Ouch. (for the month of October, the restaurant had about $44,000 in gross sales, and spent $43,000 on food cost, and $56,000 on labor) The kitchen manager was happy to see me go; I was the only one there over the age of twenty-four, and though I never said anything, I think he knew what I was thinking, that is, the kind of horrified fascination of watching a train wreck.
I've started chapter nine. The whole book is gelling for me. I can feel the characters more as individuals. At this pace, it should be done by this time next year.
We shall go to meet the Staples on Friday. Right now, they are our best chance at getting the building. It thrills me and terrifies me. I admit that a large part of me will breathe a sigh of relief if we don't get it. But, gods, what an adventure, if we do!
