I don't know how often I've seen that idea of how cool it would be to have a double who's like an extra set of hands. You know, someone who is another you, so that you can get all the stuff done that you need to get done.

Sometimes that's how I treat Mike. And then I get annoyed that he doesn't do the stuff that I've asked him to do. I forget that he's got his own stuff.

Today, I called him up and said, "Sweetie, before you leave for downstate, could you find the grinder so I can process that venison, and I was really hoping that you'd look at the Bunn and see if I killed it dead, and on your way out of town, drop Luke off with me -- he can go to the children's library while I work on my paper."

So I just called Carl to check on the shop and asked if his Dad had come by to look at the drip machine, and no, he had not. I called Mike and asked him what he was doing. "Making pumpkin bread with Luke," he said. I could hear the smile in his voice and Luke chattering in the background.

And I felt so ashamed that I wanted to cry. So. Well, I've got a paper to write.

Have you seen the movie multiplicity? I have gone back and forth on that movie several times, which really says to me that it's got some important ideas in it. And it is actually pretty funny, even when it pisses me off.

See it first, I couldn't tell you without spoiling it.
