house work

I get bummed because I will never get the house at the level of neat and clean that make me happy. I'm just too tired. Today got the kids up, egged them on to get ready, and drove them to school. I washed a sinkfull of dishes and mopped the kitchen floor. Zary got into bed with us last night and then peed, so I changed the bed and I'm on my fourth load of laundry. I'd say that there's about four more loads to do, and if I keep at it, I should get it down by tomorrow.

Chris hasn't been feeling well today. He kept moving from his bed to the couch last night; I don't think he felt very good. He got up for breakfast, ate a huge bowl of oatmeal -- with yogurt, cranberry sauce and a squished banana added. Then he had an enormous poop. All of that wore him right out, and he's been napping all morning.

I'm waiting for Mike to get home from work so I can go in for my health insurance re-up appointment at work -- he just came in.

Using a housekeeper didn't really work for me; for example, to clean the kitchen, they wanted everything off the floor, and the dishes done and the counters cleared off. If I'm going to do all of that, it only takes a little bit more to go ahead and do the dishes, wipe the counters and mop the floor.

I'm just tired today.

I have, on occasion, found housecleaners of the non-Kepler type (i.e., those that sweep out the same area every time frame), who will learn the house well enough to tackle something to get it out of your way. But it takes training, and time, or careful prep ("all clean dishes go in these bins; I'll put them away when you get home; if you don't know where something goes, put it back, or put it in this corner of the room"). And it isn't easy if you're (well, "I'm") fatigued.

And you need to be careful of instructions. I once said to put all boxes, bubblewrap, etc, on the couch. She did. There were a lot more boxes and bubbles/etc. than I'd realized, but she followed my instructions, and the couch was piled almost to the ceiling! It reminded me of a children's story about how a person is told to "dust" the furniture, and thinks she's used to "getting the dust off" but finds some dusting powder... and puts pretty ribbons and bows on the steak she's supposed to "trim", and several more punful misunderstandings.
