ljgeoffAbout a year ago, my son Sam said, "Mom, I wished you drank."
"Huh?"
"Brandon says that he waited 'till his mom was drunk and asked her for a new bike, and she said yes, so now he's getting a new bike."
I've told my kids to stay away from Brandon. This summer he tried to talk Sam into shooting a cat with a BB gun. I don't like the kid. It's sad, 'cause I can remember when he was eight years old, and he was just a normal little kid. Now he's fourteen, and last week he came into our house and stole two prescription drugs. I know that he stole the drugs because another one of my boys' friends heard Brandon talking about it after school. He stole a new bottle of Concerta, which is Ritalin, and about 1/2 a bottle of the drug that my doc gave me to prevent migraines- a beta blocker called Inderal.
I've talked to the police, but they haven't talked to Justin, the boy who heard Brandon talking, let alone Brandon. I think that they figure that they don't have enough evidence to arrest him, and so they're not going to waste their time. But overdose of the Inderal can cause heart attack.
I don't like the kid, but I don't want to see him dead.
I don't feel comfortable talking to Brandon's parents. The last time I had any contact with them was second hand. Brandon's father was drunk and yelling at Mike. I can't remember what he was yelling at him about. I think that Brandon was over here, and then he left and went somewhere else, and Brandon's dad was angry that we didn't know where he went.
I told Carl and Sam to say something to one of Brandon's buddies, Steve. "Tell Steve that the littel blue pill can cause someone to have a heart attack. Tell him it'd be a good idea to throw all those pills away. Tell him to tell his other friends, too."
I'm going to go to the school, and talk to the school counselor again. I'll see if I can get ahold of Justin's parents, and see if they'll take him down to the police station to talk to the officer.
Damn this all to Hell.
